Description
Ultra-creamy, golden, and bubbling with cheesy goodness — these scalloped potatoes are the ultimate comfort side dish. Layers of tender Yukon Golds, rich cream, and two cheeses make this a must-have at every gathering.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 lbs Yukon Gold potatoes (thinly sliced, about ⅛ inch thick)
- 3 cups heavy cream (or half-and-half for a lighter version)
- 1½ cups sharp cheddar cheese (or Gruyère for a nutty twist)
- 4 garlic cloves, minced (or 1 tsp garlic powder)
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- Salt and pepper (to season every layer)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- In a saucepan, warm the cream with garlic and paprika until just simmering. Remove from heat.
- Layer half the potato slices in the baking dish. Season with salt and pepper, sprinkle half the cheddar.
- Repeat with remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheddar. Top with Parmesan.
- Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Remove foil and bake 20–25 minutes until golden and bubbly.
- Let rest 10 minutes before serving for clean slices.
Notes
Pro Tip: Thinly slice potatoes (⅛ inch thick) using a mandoline for even cooking. Uneven slices = mushy middles and crunchy edges. For added flavor, infuse cream with fresh thyme or a pinch of nutmeg.
